Jaida Esin Çalışkan is an award winning British lawyer with an extensive and unique knowledge of the financial, legal and political structures of the United Kingdom and Turkey. Having started her professional career as a Banker in the City of London, Jaida worked for T.C.Ziraat Bankası (Turkey’s largest state bank), in the London office.
Jaida later qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales and holds a Masters of Law. She set up her legal firm, Caliskan Carter Solicitors in 2008, which she ran until 2015 when she sold the practice. The firm specialised in Immigration law with a niche in Ankara Agreement appeals against the Home Office. She also practised in criminal, television broadcast licensing and Trade Mark law and has dealt with several legal cases with a Turkish connection.
She is the winner of two academic prizes: The Blackstone Press Prize for Top LLB Finalist and another for Criminal Trials gained during her Masters. She completed the Legal Practice Course at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice which is affiliated with Oxford University and is an Oxford Student Union alumni.
– EXPERIENCED
Extensive Knowledge of the UK and Turkey
Jaida is currently a non-practising Solicitor working in the property sector and teaches law freelance at a university in London. She was previously involved in politics having been elected a Councillor in local government between 2018 to 2021. During her tenure she ran and won two elections and sat on several local government committees. She also formed a social enterprise called ’The Friendship Group’ which sought to combat loneliness and social isolation amongst the community she represented via workshops and social activities. The group was received very well by her constituents and still continues to this day.
Jaida is bilingual, speaking, reading and writing Turkish and English to excellent native standards.
With her broad ranging and extensive knowledge of both countries, Jaida is in a unique position to assist both British and Turkish companies, individuals and public bodies in relation to facilitating their cross border negotiations and enterprises. She is not able to advise on Turkish law.
